Volunteer
The City of New Haven Health Department’s Medical Reserve Corps needs volunteers! If you are age 18 and up, join the Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) for medical and non-medical missions. Individuals without medical backgrounds can still sign up.
Volunteers Help with the Following Tasks:
- Provide medical screening and support in mass care settings
- Assist with patient tracking at planned events
- Support medical countermeasures (MCM) distribution and dispensing activities
- Assist with planned and unplanned public health activities and events
Responsibilities & Qualifications for Medical Volunteers
- Ability to screen patients for contraindications/clearance to receive vaccine
- Ability to administer vaccines
- Have a current CT medical license (RN, APRN, PA, DO, MD, R.Ph)
- Ability to exhibit a professional, positive attitude and work ethic
- Excellent interpersonal skills required
- Ability to interact professionally with culturally diverse individuals
- Ability to handle and maintain patient confidentiality
- Critical thinking and sound judgment required
- Proficiency with computers and tablets
- Ability to speak, read, and write English required; knowledge of second or multiple languages a plus
Responsibilities & Qualifications for Non-Medical Volunteers
- Ability to assist with crowd control
- Ability to set-up and break-down vaccination stations, including moving tables and chairs
- Ability to lift items heavy items (up to 50 pounds)
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time
- Critical thinking and sound judgment required
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Ability to exhibit a professional, positive attitude and work ethic
- Excellent interpersonal skills required
- Ability to interact professionally with culturally diverse individuals
- Ability to handle and maintain patient confidentiality
- Maintain contact with site supervisor
- Ability to use a computer a plus
- Ability to speak, read, and write English required; knowledge of second or multiple languages a plus
