New Haven Health

Parents & Caregivers

The New Haven Health Department cares about the health of you and your children. Here are our current offerings for family wellness.

Vaccines & Immunizations

Children 6 months and up are now eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine!

Check out NHVVAX.ORG for more information on the COVID-19, flu, HPV, and meningitis vaccines. Plus, find vaccination locations near you!

Looking for you or your child’s immunization records?

Find them at CTWIZ, Connecticut’s immunization record portal. For help using CTWIZ, call 203-946-7257.

Car Seat Safety

Unfortunately, only 1 out of 5 car seats in Connecticut is used properly. Make an appointment to meet with a Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician to learn how to properly install and use your child’s car seat. This service is available for all New Haven residents and is free-of-charge.

BY APPOINTMENT ONLY

To request a car seat fitting, complete this form.

Back-to-School Health Requirements

The Bureau of Nursing provides health services to approximately 26,000 students in grades Pre-K through Grade 12 in both public and non-public schools. Parents must ensure that children meet certain health requirements before they will be allowed to attend school in New Haven.

Lead Poisoning Prevention

If your child has tested positive for elevated blood levels, a certified lead inspector will visit your home to identify the sources of lead poisoning and help you reduce those risk factors.

For more information on this program, visit our Lead Poisoning Prevention page or contact Amanda Baldwin at [email protected] or 203-584-1646.

Childhood Asthma

If you have asthma and live in New Haven, you may be eligible for free equipment and supplies to reduce and prevent the incidents of an asthmatic episode due to triggers in the home environment. Ask your medical provider for a referral through the Triggers Be Gone program. Income guidelines apply.

Call 203-946-8174 for more information

Women, Infants & Children (WIC) Nutrition Program

WIC continues to provide appointment flexibility by offering services in-person, over the phone, through a video call or through online nutrition education. Due to a higher call volume, you may have to leave a voice message with your local office. Breastfeeding Peer Counseling services are available at certain locations for additional breastfeeding encouragement and support.
