To achieve health equity we must change the systems and policies that have created on-going health inequities.
Health equity is when everyone has a fair opportunity to live a long and healthy life. Health inequity is when differences, such as gender, ethnicity, race, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, disability, and where you live, affect one’s access to healthcare and can lead to poorer health outcomes
The New Haven Health Department’s 2023 Strategic Plan includes the goal to Confront Racism and Advance Racial Justice as its top strategic priority.
